SPLICE
(2025)
Splice is an artist book that reflects back on 25 years of making
books. It juxtaposes images from earlier works with new ones,
shifting scale to create a mature narrative and a timely perspective.
It’s center-fold is a letterpress printed book on kozo paper within a
book about a book on a book.... Both editions combine a range of
processes, including risography, letterpress relief printing, collage,
stitching, and digital printing.
A zine version of the splice book was made from all the off-cuts from the edition. Each book is sewn into a one-of-a-kind digital + letterpress cover. A unique edition of around fifty were made in the late fall of 2025. They are enclosed in a transparent sleeve.

ZINEThis project ponders the physical and virtual synthetics
that exist in our daily lives. While one is holding a synthetic zine, you can
turn pages to find a collection of unnecessary paper bags with jagged edges,
flat plastics and containers are a mixture of fascination and frustration.
Materials, substances, processes that are created through non-natural methods
can be used to create plastic bottles, discarded wrappers, and heaps of
rubbish. Objects saved, rather than discarded, can be prompts, starting points,
or source materials to generate new images or containers, like AI spawns
people, objects or even birds passing through an archive.
We cannot escape AI and chat GPT (generative synthetics) in our current world. Birds were created by NOVIKI (Warsaw, Poland) with assistance from ai. The birds love long journey. Hand-bound using a selection of papers, fabrics, envelopes, bags, and synthetics in the winter of 2024.

The unfolding library, curated by Tricia Treacy + Denise
Bookwalter prompted artists and designers to make a new artist book (in
the broadest interpretation) within 6 weeks about a passage of time.
This collection of book objects launched in April 2025 at the Bergen Art
Book Fair in Norway to expose artists working in and around book
formats that might not attend book fairs.
These curated 25 books are available to be exhibited until summer 2026. After then, we will collaborate with an artist book archive by gifting the unique collection, enabling the books access to more curious people. View the online gallery of books.

Clippings is a conversation between Denise Bookwalter, Nora
Pauwels, and Tricia Treacy that visually recorded the intersection of
their practices for the exhibition at Galeria Druck & Buch in
Vienna, Austria in fall 2024.
As a non-traditional catalog, it entwines snippets from their individual work. When experienced together in this hand-sewn book, it tells a story of their artistic processes and archives ways in which their work can be shared outside the gallery and beyond.
It was designed by Tricia Treacy + produced in her New Hampshire studio with Maggie Minor.
